I think that you'll find that the price from EyeTech includes VAT which isn't
added to the price quoted from Germany. Also the German price won't include
shipping charges, and although they will be a little lower for Eye Tech, they
have to be absorbed somewhere. Oh, and the staff at Eye Tech who do all the
buying and selling do like to eat occasionally......

and between ~12am and just after 6pm, Alan posted 57 emails to this

know it's Sunday and the list is a bit quiter than normal, but 57

One of my closest (now ex-friend, but over/for a different reason)
friends was a lesbian. I *know* what gays have to put up with through
her.

I used to take the p*ss out of here about it, and she used to play

Yes there would.

Until recently (we fell out about a year ago), one of my closest friends
was a lesbian. I *know* what gays have to put up with through her and
her partner. I have also had to put with abuse myself because of my
weight, although it's not as bad as gays have to put up with, it does
give me some insight of what they go through as I've been on the
receiving end (oh, no people! No!) of verbal and physical
abuse/bullying.

Yes, I used to take the p**s out of her over it and she didn't have a
problem, but that's because I know where to draw the line here -
whereas you don't appear to.

At the end of the day, and what you don't seem to realise, is that it's
not /just/ these comments you've made about gays, but it's many immature
comments you've made over a period of time (that stretches back to
before I left) that's made people less tolerant towards you and your
immature attitude.

BTW, I've worked in the motor-trade for over ten years, it's one of the
worst trades to be in if your over-sensitive and has made me pretty much
think skinned over the years. So please, think twice before calling me
an "over sensitive idiot".

Great, back for two days and I'm in the middle of an argument already...

Possibly, I'm not a legal expert, but "Yella Pages" is still playing on
their trade marks, something big companies can get /very/ touchy over.

Even if he had chosen to stand his ground and/or even `negotiate' an
acceptable name with them, his ISP would've shut the site down first.
ISPs can get very nervous when large companies with lots of money and
good lawyers start to throw their weight around.

If I were in the same situation, I would have probably done the same
thing. :(

I've had a quick look, and it looks you you may have a `name' and/or
`target' the same, they should all be different when using in nested
frames, even if used with a different frames document. It's a bit
awkward to look at it online (BT and their phone costs). If you get
/really/ desperate, send me the source (no images) of your site,
archived with lha or something, and I'll take a look.

No you cannot use a 10mbit card on a 100mbit hub.
You can only use 100mbit cards on a 100mbit hub.

What you need is a 10/100mbit hub - it senses the speed and does the
necessary - however, i would not receommend running a  10/100 hub, spend the
extra few pounds and get a 10/100 switch - it will make an *immense*
difference - believe me :)

The hubs here at work only seem to work with 100mbit, they complain
like hell if you go lower.

There's a bloke that rings me up occasionally who swears that there are more
A500 owners *and users* out there than A1200 ones. They are running
Workbench 1.3 and he wants to know why we don't run much 1.3 software on
our coverdisks (since most of them don't have CD-ROMs). He runs a usergroup
and he reckons he has 12,000 worldwide members...

Also, if you have a 10mbit card running alongside 100mbit cards on a hub,
due to the hub technologies the 100mbs have to dumb down for it all to work.
A switch gets past this as the data is moved to the destination port at
wire-speed as opposed to sending all the data to all the ports like on a
hub.

Yes, he gets a small amount of cash (about enough for between ten and twenty
copies of his software - it's all we can afford these days, and he was
happy to take it, which really says something about his Amiga sales...).
No, he won't be hanging around. I don't know if it will affect any other
program developer - his was the only one of its type still in development.

do, I get a clash in colors from time to time, so I use a program off
Aminet called "outlinefont13.lha" (another patch....). It allows you to
say put a black shadow around white text for example.

How long ago Will? Yes, AF's Workbench section used to be poor, but then so
did a lot of the rest of Fomrat (sic). Before I started working here, I
wouldn't even look at AF, now I edit it, I'd hope that things are a lot
more accurate. Even so, it's not always easy to support a group of people
who have the widest ranging types of machine going. We are not immune to
getting things wrong, but perhaps you didn't give enough detail about your
problem or your setup?

The is a list of patches included with the mcp archive, it will tell
you what functions patch what,.. i cant remember it all and i cant
check it now, mail me if you need me to send it to you.

Some things to check are the order of your startup-sequence, it should
be,..

- remove ??.library (for OS3.5)
- Setpatch
- PatchControl
- MCP

Does anyone know why my Epson printer prints text in red when i print
from Multiview, amigaguide, PPGuide ? but in every other program i use
the text/pictures are perfect, I am using the Turboprint driver Epson
stylus 640

PS: I strongly recommend people who use a Epson Printer to get
Turboprint it's a excellent piece of software :-)

Hi,

I have a laptop that I will currently be sending for repair and I want
to back up some of the data on the 2.5 inch HD.  I am using my A1200 but
since I only have the standard IDE interface, I have to use a boot
floppy to mount my CD-ROM drive (Blizzard 1230IV with SCSI) so that I
can run disk tools from there.

Using SCSI Mount from the AFCD, the drive shows up but when I try to
mount it I get an error mumbling about a lack of RDB (which I assume is
Rigid Disk Block).

My question is - is it possible to access the files on the PC hard drive
with just a floppy and CD drive, and if so what filesystems, software
etc. should I use?

A few floppies should be sufficient for backing up files, so that isn't
a problem.

And another way for the non 3.5 clan :).  I used to have ooooh 4 disks
like this (two for Fusion; two for PC-Task), get around it like this
(works for PCx and Fusion, PC-Task is more involved):

In PCx and Fusion you can create a mountlist for a device; click on the
drive that you want to make a mountlist for and save them to
SYS:Storage/DOSDrivers/
now; in HDToolBox turn off automount for the partitions.

Then make an AmigaDOS script to call Fusion/Pcx and Mount for the
Mountlist for example:

Mount sys:storage/dosdrivers/machd

Then when Fusion/PCx terminates; call for example:

assign [machd:] dismount

[machd:] should be replaced by the dosdriver's name, e.g.: if it was
'apple' then you would use: assign apple: dismount

QNX is basicly a very good implementation of unix,.. Elate is very
diffrent in that it is a custom OS that has taken on board the best
practice of Unix and posix. Its not clear what Amiga Corp are doing,..
and real details of the Elate RTOS are hard to get (i.e you have to
pay),. but Fleecy and chums are either doing the intuition type layers,
or the gadtools / mui / workbench layer. Its not obvious which.

Java apps fit very nicely with the Elate VPcode system, its also the
way the big companies will go to create truely portable apps.

Hee Hee, I have only been away since Thursday and afb seems to have
been surrounded with flames! :)

None the less, Mash - think about it, PAL is 50Hz and NTSC is 60Hz.
What is Hz, KHz, MHz, GHz etc.??   A measurement of frequency.  50 for
PAL means that the screen is refreshed 50 times a second; NTSC 60 times
a second.  Hz is a frequency measure!!!

A 44.1KHz sound sample, it plays 'faster' than at 22.8KHz for example.

A 25MHz processor does more stuff (in theory, without getting bogged
down with word sizes etc.) than a 16MHz processor.  In this case; it's
how frequent those instructions are carried out! :)

Yeah sounds totally genuine but you do know that I have an A600 which
my Dad bought in 1978 don't you?! ;)  Mind you; that's what the clock
says on it...

It's a bug in Multiview, believe it or not, I'm cannot recall whether
it was just Multiview 3.0 (39) or 3.1 (40) that did that or both!!!

First of all, I said that, to you when I was on a downer. I was going
through a  bad patch at the time. :(

Secondly there are two r's in Carrillo :P

Thirdly.
Amiga Yellow Pages had to go. I could have renamed it and changed the
images but it wouldn't have been the same.

I have therefore decided (at the suggestion of a certain Mr Korn) to
come back with a new idea. It will incorporate some of the good ideas
that Amiga Yellow pages had, but with a much easier layout (I hope). It
will however mean that a new site will not emerge for a good couple of

But does Java really matter with Elate? Elate can be run on any
hardware it had been compiled for, and because of its "virtual
processor" (or something) applications don't need to be processor
specific.

It's much of a muchness: learn Elate's macro language to code your apps in,
or use Java for which there is a virtual processor...

Right, now this is on topic because it's 68K Mac software for Fusion!
:)  Now, my resources / contacts have all but dried up and I have just
got a very nasty shock...

Apart from EBay, (i don't like the thought of bidding!) does anyone
personally have the following software:

* Microsoft Office 4.2 CD or Disk, Manuals not a must but would be nice
* Claris Works 5 (also known as Apple Works)

I have discovered yesterday (Sunday) that my copy of MS Office which I
bought about three years ago has gone walkies and has disappeared off
the face of the earth or at least Braunton! (where i live!)

If you have any of the above items; plus any other 68K Mac software, do
you reckon you could contact me since I need this software! :)  If you
do have some software or the above please reply to:

OR [e-mail] if you are going to reply after Tuesday!

It must be suitable for 68040/40, 32Mb 'Mac'.  I have MacOS 7.6.1 BTW.
Any software also suitable on disk this time for a 33MHz 68030 and 16Mb
Mac also running MacOS 7.6.1 - I am also interested in.

The respective Amigas are an A1200T and A600.  My Quadra 950 doesn't
have much software; nor does my PowerMac 7300..  Only MS Office, Claris
Works 4, PhotoShop 3.0.5 and a few other bits...

You're being very impatient.  AF135 doesn't go on sale until March 10th in
the shops, so expect your subscription copy around the 3rd.

However, if it's AF134 that you're missing, it's a different matter.

no. we will see them...in fact we're on the verge of them being
released. Transmetas technology also enables this.

the secret is to use fewer transistors and smaller
interconnects... which is why with .20 micron the chips can get faster..

a whole cul-de-sac of DI houses were built just outside london last
year..i think near Guildford...not sure how much integration, but enough
to program the VCR while away from home, check on web-cams for house

Nope. QNX is a good implementation of an operating system that can look like
UNIX from the outside. Consider: AmigaOS can be made POSIX-compliant to a

The intent multimedia toolkit provides the tools to build a windowing
system, it doesn't define how it should look. The screenshots seen on Tao's
website is merely an example. Amiga Inc., will be creating a user interface
using intent - in some ways this is lower level than Intution (Intuition
does provide a definite look and feel), in some ways higher.

..and if there were that many ACTIVE floppy-based Amiga owners..wouldnt
the sales of Floppy AF be much higher? ;-)

Did I forget to mention that most of his members aren't on the net because
a) only PCs can do that (and when I pointed out this was not so) b) it'd
cost too much...

No, because we don't carry enough 1.3 stuff on our disks. BTW, even 1.3 is
seen as dangerously avant-garde. The true hardcore only use 1.2...

wb3.1 or 3.5 with crossdos and a mountlist.

wouldnt it be easier to link them up via the serial or parallel port and
xferring the data that way?

if you run a terminal program at each end you can just sz the files
across the serial link

I was thinking of doing this to stop future 'All in one day'
mailings..which some people seemed to have found offensive

You can now have an alias. Just go to the "my space" bit of the website.
